San Giovanni in Fonte
A beautiful church in Verona which forms part of the Cathedral Complex

The Church of San Giovanni in Fonte

This beautiful and historic church forms part of the Cathedral complex in Verona’s historical centre and is a real romantic setting for a small and intimate nuptial mass.

This Romanic church ,which is dedicated to San John the Baptist, was built during the Lombard reign but completely rebuilt in 1123, after the terrible earthquake of 1117.

The simple nature of this church with its beautiful stone pillars is a peaceful and beautiful haven of tranquillity.

Whilst it does not hold the wealth of art treasures to be found in the main Cathedral building itself, San Giovanni in Fonte does have its own precious works of art including 15th century frescoes, an amazing oil painting of the Baptism of Christ by Paolo Farinati dating back to 1568, and many more wonderful art works .

The main function of this church is as the Cathedral Baptistry and it holds a very special place in the hearts of the people from Verona. Many of them were baptized here and come back for their own wedding ceremony.

The real jewel in this church is the octagonal baptismal font masterpiece of Brioloto a 12th Century Veronese sculpture who depicted biblical scenes on each of its eight facades.

Lanterns and candles placed around the font plus the strains of our harpist and soprano will ensure not a dry eye in the congregation.

Outside the church there are many roman remains providing an amazing setting for your wedding photos.

The beautiful peaceful cloisters beside the main cathedral is also an ideal location for photos with your family and friends.
