Casanova's Castle

This is one of our favourite locations in Italy and one of Northern Italy's finest wedding venues.

Our Casanova Castle, stands majestically amongst the gently rolling Collio hills and is set amongst its own vineyards which symbolize the rich traditions and history of this proud land.

The castle's origins date back to 1200 and boasts a long and distinguished history of noble lineages, distinguished people and some more colourful and daring guests such as Giacomo Casanova .

A romantic Italian wedding in this Friulan castle that was loved by Giacomo Casanova is difficult to sum up with words alone.

The owners have lavished great attention in trasforming this historical property into an exclusive luxury resort complete with an 18 hole golf course, Club House, Winery, Hotel, Restaurant and Tavern all serving the best of Friulian hospitality and cuisine.

Savour the elegant and refined atmosphere of its halls, imagine where the famous 18th-century adventurer  spent his days amidst wordly pleasures, conversations, writing, music, and of course, tasting fine wines.

Built in 1200, the manor house was the residence of Friulan aristocracy for centuries and it hosted illustrious people, such as Lorenzo Da Ponte, Mozart's renowned librettist, the Duke Emanuele Filiberto D'Aosta and  Casanova himself, who found here refuge and tranquillity to write, while being the guest of the owner of the Castle at that time, the Count Luigi Torriani.

A series of noblemen and illustrious personalities marked the Castle's history and set the perfect scene for the castle’s present owners who with their vocation for hospitality have lovingly restored this love nest in order that we may all enjoy stepping back into history but with no shortage of modern day comforts.

Plunged in the greenery of a magnificent Italian garden, the Castle stands as the heart of an extended Resort with an 18-hole Golf Course, Club House with Bar & Restaurant (also accessible to  non-golfers), A well stocked working Winery, and the delicious Casanova Wine Store, where you may find vintage wines and local delicatessen.

The castle can be taken on an exclusive basis for a few days allowing you to really live like a King and Queen and to enjoy the company of your loved ones in a unique and stunning way.
Your Italian wedding reception in this beautiful castle can be arranged in three magnificent halls decorated and furnished in period style.

A welcome cocktail can be served outdoors in the spectacular garden or in the medieval wine cellar.

Italian Cuisine and excellent wines produced by the castle are the perfect outline for a special wedding in an Italian castle.  maximum of 170/180 guests.

Italian Wedding Ceremonies at the Castle can be either a symbolic ceremony in the grounds with our amazing English speaking celebrant or a religious ceremony in the castle’s small church.

We have many great venues in the local villages to celebrate your civil ceremony too.

Your guests can choose their accommodation from 3 different locations with differing styles an budgets.

CASTLE ROOMS

15 luxuriously furnished rooms and suites which have maintained the feel and style of the castle in bygone days. Luxurious period furnishings and drapery will make you feel comfortable and cosseted with echoes of days gone by.

An abundant buffet breakfast is served in the ancient country style breakfast room and is a rich way to start the day.

Stroll along the romantic literary trail among secular trees, bowers, balconies adorned with statues: 10 halts signposted with wrought iron plaques where Casanova's phrases about love, women, friendship and life are engraved.

THE CASTLE HALLS

The refined and charming halls, as well as the Memoirs of Casanova, still fluttering in the Castle, are lined up along the back of the Castle and they overlook a large terrace where from you may walk down to the Italian style garden.

One after the other , the Mirror Room and the Green Room curl up in the residence. The Pink Room hosts a piano and leads to the Hunting Room, which – covered with its period wood panelling – has always been a smoking room. From here you may access the Chinese room and the Library room with a billiard table.

THE CASTLE CELLARS

It is also possible to visit the ancient medieval cellars where the wines produced by using the grapes grown around the castle are matured. Already celebrated since the second half of the 14th century, the wines of the Castle were praised as “of excellent quality” by Casanova in his Memoirs.
Seventy steps will lead you down to the second level of the cellar, remnants of a former 18-metredeep bunker excavated in 1939 for military purposes. From the bunker you can exit to the castle grounds and park.

The cellars represent an ideal location for a toast, wine tasting and aperitif sessions during your event at the Castle.


THE TAVERNETTA

The original country house, successively turned into a country inn, represents today the Tavernetta  with its excellent gourmet restaurant and 10 rooms lovingly furnished to provide a country-chic ambience, from whose terraces our guests may enjoy a splendid view over the surrounding hills and the golf course.

Food here is of a very high standard using fresh local quality produce and served with courtesy and professional charm.

Fine wines are obviously in abundance.

THE COUNTRY INN

In the nearby village of Cormons another 6 rooms can be found in this rural but very comfortable country style inn.

The inn offers 5 double rooms all finely and comfortably furnished in typical Friulian country style farmhouses.  From the balconies of the rooms you can enjoy the extensive views of the estate’s vineyards.

Here you will awake to a rich and varied buffet breakfast, with local cold cuts and cheeses.
All cakes, biscuits and desserts are home-made.

On the ground floor of the building, the small restaurant / bistrot will delight cheese lovers with its rich selection of cheeses, which play the leading the role, matched to sauces and fruit pickles, sophisticated jellies and incomparable jams. 

From local to European cheeses, the range is continually being updated: spreadable goat's milk cheese, blu di capra (blue goat's milk cheese), cured percorino (sheep's milk cheese), erborinati (cheese with blue-green marbling), buffalo's or cow's milk mozzarella, which can be smoked or flavoured with walnuts, rocket or basil. 

Equally important is the offer of cold cuts, such as the outstanding San Daniele Cresus, Sauris, Langhirano, Montagnana and the excellent Spanish Pata Negra, different types of lards, the prosciutto cotto nel pane (ham cooked in a bread crust), Friulian baked bacon, salty beef and pork meat with herbs and spices to be served with home-made vegetables in oil. 

Finally, a scrumptious range of chocolate in different flavours such as pear, black cherry, citrus, coffee, chilli, and the chocolate shells filled with rose jellies o with Perle sweet wine.  The perfect match is obviously to be found in the castle’s wine cellar.

The restaurant is the ideal place for delicious and informal dinners, but also for an aperitif or a quick lunch. 

During winter evenings the large fogolâr (Friulian fireplace) will warm up the atmosphere, whereas during the summer nights a suggestive patio is set up to enjoy the delicacies of food in the garden of the mansion.

GUEST ACTIVITIES

A wide range of guest activities can be arranged such as : cookery courses, wine tastings and visits to local vineyards, gastronomic tours and golf. 

Many local medieval towns and villages are also nearby such as the medieval town of Cividale.

Venice and Trieste are also within easy reach.

Being only 8 kms from the border of Slovenia, your guests can also combine a holiday in Slovenia or Croatia around your wedding celebrations.
